Storing Rubber Stamps

Rubber stamps are popular with many crafters. Scrapbook enthusiasts often use rubber stamps to decorate their scrapbook pages. You can also use artistic rubber stamps for making cards and other paper art projects. These stamps can even be used to decorate fabrics and non-porous materials like pots, vases and even candles. You just need to choose the right kind of ink for your stamping surface. There are so many different stamps available that many crafters find themselves needing storage. Here are some tips for storing rubber stamps that can keep you organized and ensure your stamps stay in great shape.

You will find that storing mounted stamps is a bit more challenging than storing unmounted stamps because they take up more room and are less flexible. One way to store a large quantity of unmounted stamps is using a gallon sized freezer bag and piece of cardboard. Insert the cardboard sheet then slide the stamps in to sit on top of the cardboard. This way you can stack the bags of stamps in a storage container while keeping them safe and well organized. Another option for mounted stamps is to buy a storage device especially made for this purpose.

Tackle boxes used for fishing can be perfect stamp storage containers. The large ones contain lots of space and different compartments for many stamps. Another option is to store your stamps in a plastic tote. You may want to put each one in a plastic baggie to keep it clean. Some people actually file their stamps by category or alphabetically. If you have lots of stamps, you may want to buy a different container for each category to make them easy to find. Another thing you may want to do is keep a stamp log which lists the stamps you already own. This is handy to take with you when shopping for new stamps so you can see what you already have and what you need.

As you can see, there are many methods of storing rubber stamps. The right method for you depends on how many stamps you have and whether they are mounted or unmounted. Unmounted stamps can be easily stored in clear bags and filed in a file cabinet for easy access. They are also easy to stack because they don't have bulky handles attached. Rubber stamping is a creative hobby that is so much fun you may find yourself obsessed with collecting stamps. Luckily there are so many different styles you will never run out of stamps to buy!
